I first met Ruthanne 20 years ago when I worked for her Dad. She would come into the office to work and we would have lunch together(she made her own bread!) Ruthanne decided to go to medical school and I left to work for a YAG Laser company. I did not see her for about 14 years, but through friends found out about her battle with breast cancer. I thought about her often. Then in 1998 I joined OCB as a tech, and had the distinct honor of working with her. She was a wonderful person to work with and a wonderful friend. I will miss her smile, warmth and chats about the kids. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Karen

One of the most valuable possessions I brought with me when I moved to Boston twenty years ago was a phone number given to me by a friend who knew Ruthanne. I called, and she and Bob welcomed me into their home and their circle of friends.

Ruthanne knew I was alone in a huge blizzard in ‘82, so characteristically she invited me over to their house. Of course I thought nothing of trudging the three miles on foot to get there, because it was the warmest place in town.

To Bob, Nick and Laura, you are fortunate to have felt that warmth for so long. My condolences and prayers are with you.

I first met Ruthanne when she entered the Girl Scout cadet troop where I was assistant leader. She emulated a true scout even then.

She re-entered my life years later as she and Bob were very close friends of my daughter, Liz, and her husband, Larry. She entertained us graciously on the Cape when we visited her there while renting Dick and Anne's home at Tide's End, and my daughter spoke so eloquently of her courage and positive attitude. She remained a true scout all the way, and a very lovely lady.

I have referred a several friends to her as a physician, and they loved her.

Please know, Bob, Nick, Laura, that my thoughts and prayers are with you as you take your first steps on tomorrow's road. Bless you all.

I had the privilege of having Ruthanne (and sister Kathy) in my yoga classes at about this time last year. Ruthanne was so completely present to the experience. She radiated light. It was a gift to know her.

I last heard from Ruthanne on October 10 when she asked her mother to write to me. I was overwhelmed that she would think of others during her final days.

I first met Ruthanne and her dad in Boston when I had eye surgery in both eyes in February 1996 and September 1997 for advanced glaucoma. They saved my sight. I will be grateful to both forever.

Ruthanne and I shared a special bond, perhaps because I also had breast cancer. She has had a tremendous impact on my life. She was more than my doctor, she was my friend. I feel so blessed our paths have crossed and I will miss her dearly.

What I will remember most about Ruthanne is that infectious smile of hers, her strength, her grace, her joy, and her warmth.

My thoughts and prayers are with her husband, Bob, her children, Nick and Laura, and her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Simmons.

I will love you always, Ruthanne.
